Endometriosis affects about 176 million people worldwide and is one of the leading causes of pelvic pain. People managing this disease can struggle with acute pain episodes, chronic pain, and other debilitating symptoms which can drastically impact quality of life. Although there is no cure for endometriosis, Yoga and Yoga Therapy can provide an integrative approach to treating endometriosis, dysmenorrhoea (painful menstruation), and pelvic pain. Using a biopsychosocial model, this 7 part class series will provide you with a deeper understanding of endometriosis, its symptoms, and potential complications. You will be guided through the things we need to know to help yourself, students/clients dealing with endometriosis and its associated symptoms. The workshop series will also give you: Clarity on pain types and the complexity of working with endometriosis symptoms, Perspective on the lived experience of endometriosis and the skills to listen, acknowledge and teach people how to take an active role in their disease management Tools to educate and provide people with non-pharmacological/surgical tools to manage their pain and symptoms. About Sarah: Sarah Garden (she /her), C-IAYT, has been a yoga therapist for over twenty years and has a thriving local practice in Saskatchewan, Sarah works as a full-time pain educator and yoga therapist at the Regina Chronic Pain Clinic where she is part of an interdisciplinary chronic pain team. Sarah regularly speaks at medical conferences about the benefits of therapeutic yoga as a whole person modality to compliment conventional treatment or to treat when conventional treatment fails. She believes yoga can play a valuable role in the treatment of everything from persistent pain, to cancer treatment and recovery, to women’s health issues. She has forged relationships with many local doctors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and other health practitioners to work co-cooperatively to better serve students.
